Initially, this role will be remote, but will switch to Hybrid working once the new office is Open (Manchester city-centre). Therefore applicants who are not able to commit to a hybrid working model need not apply. T he Department Developer Engineering is a new function within ICG (Institutional Clients Group) Technology. Our mission is to make it easy and enjoyable for software engineering teams to go from a business idea to delivering an innovative product solution. The main goals are to improve and upgrade our tools, streamline our processes, automate and strengthen our controls, and help development teams adopt modern working methods. This new initiative represents a critical investment in our future development capability. We are building an expert team to transform the working environment of the 18,000 people who make up the ICG development community and help them dramatically change their approach to developing software across the many different technologies we support. The Developer Engineering group has an exciting remit, and with the scale and variety comes a unique opportunity to be agents of cultural and technical change who significantly impact the bank. The Team Within the ICG Developer Engineering department, the Codified Controls group is a dedicated expert team focused on driving the everything-as-code agenda and delivering tangible reductions in process friction, errors, and manual effort to comply with and administer our policies, standards and the controls that derive from them. The Codified Controls group is building solutions and platforms, breaking down technical barriers and strengthening existing systems. The group has the mandate and a unique opportunity as part of a greenfield programme to impact critical technical consensus across the company and change how the organisation is applying controls and writing policies globally. The Codified Controls is a cross-functional team of engineers, data scientists, business analysts, and product managers that will directly engineer new codified controls and the underlying capabilities required to support them and drive other groups to provide the automated controls. They are also cultural and behavioural leaders who are champions of great teamwork and highly thoughtful on human-centric approaches to automating and codifying our controls and procedures. T he Role We are seeking a talented Full Stack Engineering Lead to join our growing product team and help drive our engineering organization to the next level. As the Engineering Lead, you will be responsible for driving and contributing to technical direction of our products and services, instilling engineering best practices into the team, and promoting cultural change across the organisation. You will also work with Generative AI technologies, such as GPT-4, embedding their capabilities through prompt engineering in our systems. Key Responsibilities: Work with a wide variety of Citi teams (not limited to Technology) and help them drive towards everything-as-code and a codified controls environment Provide foundational engineering capabilities to enable controls codification, such as Evidence Lakes and a policies/standards lifecycle management ecosystem Collaborate with product and engineering teams to design, build and maintain scalable and reliable web applications and services Be hands-on with coding and software design to ensure adherence to high quality standards and best practices Mentor and nurture other engineers to help them grow their skills and expertise Support and drive cultural change, including instigating critical thinking about controls and processes and encouraging a culture of continuous improvement Characteristics: Able to identify and solve problems effectively Excellent communication and collaboration skills Pragmatic, and a creative approach to managing risk An advocate of inclusion and diversity in every way A growth mindset and willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment Shows enthusiasm and develops trust through empathy Passionate about site reliability engineering and its impact on product development Connected to latest technologies, like Generative AI, and keen to put them in practice A self-starter with the ability to work effectively in teams and remotely Experience: Proven experience as a Full Stack Engineering Lead, Software Engineering Manager, or similar role Strong expertise in multiple programming languages, frameworks, and tools (we use JavaScript, Golang and Python) Demonstrated expertise of developing on a range of architectures, ideally up to and including container-based micro-services with focus on scalability, reliability, maintainability, and high performance Good understanding of SQL and NoSQL databases (we use Couchbase, MongoDB, and PostgreSQL)
